How it works
Owning a Scotch whisky cask is simpler than many imagine.
Barrels of Scotch guides you from selection to bottling, with clarity at every stage.
Select Your Cask
Browse our maturing single malt casks from respected Scottish distilleries. Each cask is individual - shaped by distillery character, wood type and time in oak.
Ownership
Complete your purchase and receive your Certificate of Ownership and delivery order.
Your cask is registered in your name and held in an UK Government approved bonded warehouse in Scotland. You may transfer, gift or sell ownership at any time.
Stored in Scotland
Scotch whisky must be matured in Scotland. Your cask rests under professional warehouse conditions, fully insured and duty-free while in bond.
Choose Your Path
You decide how and when your cask evolves: some owners hold long term, some bottle for a milestone and some create staged releases over time.
Bottle & Personalise
The final expression is shaped by you - choose your bottle shape, label design and personalised name. You don’t need to bottle the full cask at once.
Delivery & Compliance
We oversee duty, logistics, compliance and shipping from warehouse to destination. From cask selection to bottle in hand, every step is professionally handled.
MATURATION EXPLAINED
Whisky evolves in oak. As it rests, the spirit interacts with the wood, developing structure, depth and complexity over time.
The arc of time
3 years, one day - The minimum legal age for Scotch
8–12 years - Most commonly bottled
15+ years - Greater depth and rarity
As whisky matures, a small portion naturally evaporates, this is known as the angel’s share. On average, around 2% is lost each year. This gradual evaporation softens alcohol strength and concentrates flavour, contributing to the depth found in older expressions.
PROVENANCE &WOOD
Flavour is shaped by two defining forces: the distillery style and the cask itself.
Every cask represents a unique distillery and wood profile as a result of origin, production style and previous cask use. Together, these define how your whisky is likely to evolve, and what makes it distinctive.
TAX, STORAGE & COSTS
While in bond, no duty or VAT is payable. Tax applies only when whisky leaves bond. Applicable excise, VAT and local import duties depend on destination. We calculate and manage all requirements at release.
Storage
