MATURATION EXPLAINED

Whisky evolves in oak. As it rests, the spirit interacts with the wood, developing structure, depth and complexity over time.

The arc of time

3 years, one day - The minimum legal age for Scotch

8–12 years - Most commonly bottled

15+ years - Greater depth and rarity

As whisky matures, a small portion naturally evaporates, this is known as the angel’s share. On average, around 2% is lost each year.

This gradual evaporation softens alcohol strength and concentrates flavour, contributing to the depth found in older expressions.

PROVENANCE &WOOD

Flavour is shaped by two defining forces: the distillery style and the cask itself.

Every cask includes a detailed distillery profile and wood profile, outlining origin, production style and previous cask use.

Together, these define how your whisky is likely to evolve, and what makes it distinctive.
